LoomSci is an AI-powered, editor-driven scientific communication platform. AI handles scale and speed; editors handle judgment, taste, and responsibility.
In ancient Greek, the word for loom (ἱστός) shares its root with history (ἱστορία). A loom weaves separate threads into a coherent fabric; history weaves separate events into a meaningful narrative. That's exactly what LoomSci does — weave isolated research papers into stories the public can understand and care about.
The Editorial Engine — An editor selects a paper, chooses a writing style (based on their own science communication practice, then systematized into repeatable workflows), and oversees the full pipeline: generation → verification → revision → publication. AI drafts; editors decide.
The Curation Engine — Every incoming arXiv preprint is scored across six dimensions (novelty, importance, interdisciplinary reach, author authority, journal standing, freshness). Editors review the rankings and pick what deserves coverage.
Lexile-Aware Generation — Articles are generated with readability in mind. Our engine adjusts complexity based on Lexile measures, making cutting-edge research accessible without dumbing it down.
Indigo — one of the oldest pigments known to civilization, traded along the Silk Road, prized by pharaohs and dyers alike. Our logo draws on this ancient color. A 5×5 grid in shades of indigo encodes the name "Loom" in base-4, each cell a step between light and dark. Like a weaving pattern, rows and columns intersect to form a coherent whole from discrete parts. The pixelated edges are intentional — sharp, precise, unblurred, like science itself.
